As a local photographer, there are moments when my camera feels less like a tool and more like a front-row seat to the very heart of our town. Having the honor to serve as a sponsor and capture the official photography for the 6th Annual Springboro Juneteenth Festival and Jubilee Dinner was an absolute highlight of my summer.
A special shoutout goes to my new friends, Craig and Leena Gilmore-Salmon, who helped spark this whole movement. What began in the summer of 2020 as an intimate gathering in a local park—where neighbors met to reflect, talk, and dream—has grown into an incredible annual tradition across the Miami Valley.
Their vision and heart for our town have created a space where our community can gather to celebrate freedom, unity, and Springboro’s deeply rooted history as an Underground Railroad safe harbor.
An Evening Under the Tent: The Jubilee Dinner
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with the Jubilee Dinner, hosted under a grand event tent set up outdoors right adjacent to Springboro United Methodist Church.
Guests gathered in historic downtown Springboro for a night centered on fellowship, reflection, and gratitude. The atmosphere under the tent was warm and celebratory, complete with meaningful prayers, refreshing drinks, soft live music, and a delicious meal catered by Rich Taste Catering.
Even better, a portion of the dinner proceeds went directly to support the Springboro Area Historical Society and their vital work preserving our local heritage. Seeing everyone gather around the tables under the tent to honor freedom set a truly special tone for the entire weekend.
Powerful Conversations: Saturday Morning Symposiums
The festival kicked off Saturday morning with keynote symposiums focused on action, reflection, and community strength. Attendees gathered to listen and participate in panel discussions offering insights into driving positive change, family legacy, and building strong foundations for our community.
High Energy, Dancing, and Live Music
Right from the start, the music was up and going! The lineup kept downtown Springboro full of energy all day long, featuring talented local bands, high-energy DJs, and a guided line-dancing session that got everyone up on their feet learning steps together.
One of my favorite things to capture was the sheer, spontaneous joy on the dance street—from Princess Tiana showing off her moves, to Officer Morgan, who jumped right into the middle of the crowd to line dance with the kids!
History, Family Fun, and Local Community
Every corner of the festival grounds offered something memorable for attendees of all ages. Highlighting our town’s deep roots, the Springboro Area Historical Society led guided Underground Railroad tours, giving visitors a chance to walk through historic sites and honor the brave abolitionists and Freedom Seekers who shaped our local legacy.
Nearby, the Kids’ Zone was packed with non-stop excitement, complete with a bouncy house, coloring stations, cornhole, classic lawn games, fun giveaways, and a special visit from Bluey to play with the children. Rounding out the festivities was a vibrant marketplace showcasing local entrepreneurs, creative artisans, and delicious food trucks connecting with the crowd all day long.

Capturing the laughter, the rich history, the heartfelt speeches, and the incredible dance moves made this festival one to remember and I truly can’t wait to do it all again next year!
